Education Consultant and Traveling Museum

First explored in the 1980s as a hobby to locate items depicting African Americans, Dignity Justified, LLC was formed in October, 2020 as a platform to explore how collections, artifacts, art, and primary source materials can be used to provide an understanding of African American history and historical perceptions regarding the depictions of African Americans. While the collection was started in the areas of southern Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee, it now includes hundreds of artifacts and images from various collecting sources and museums— providing a window into a multitude of images regarding African American culture and history. The collection is used to as a traveling museum to present narratives, to share stories of individuals and communities, and to revive interest in neglected or untold histories.

Our Mission: “Together, History”

To have collaborative discussions regarding art, artifacts, and documents pertaining to African American culture and history for the purpose of recognizing African American perseverance and achievements as they relate to self, family, institutions, and society.

What we do

We present history and use the presentations to engage in conversations about the collection (artifacts, historic newspapers, children’s books, art, memorabilia) to teach and to have conversations about cultural history.

Our Goals:

  • To use primary source images to supplement/understand African American culture and history.

  • To encourage “people stories” to celebrate self, family, community, and country.

  • To use visual imagery as depicted in photographs, paintings, historic newspapers, and books to supplement initiatives to understand and dismantle racism by reflecting upon the ways racist artifacts negatively impact perceptions of African Americans.

  • To illuminate local history, emphasizing neglected or forgotten history profiles.

  • To contribute to efforts to boost literacy through creative avenues of connecting literature, history, and the arts.

  • To contribute to efforts to honor the perseverance and sacrifices men, women, and children who have impacted Civil Rights and social justice.
